A shocking government cover-up with possible ties to Agent Dana Scully's (Gillian Anderson) newborn son propels Agent John Doggett (Robert Patrick) and Agent Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gish) to boldly continue their investigation into a potential alien conspiracy with a possible link to the FBI on THE X-FILES Sundays, Nov. 11 and 18 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

In part one of the two-part season premiere, "Nothing Important Happened Today" Sunday, Nov. 11, Scully is forced to face the question of why the aliens did not take her baby.

Meanwhile, although warned off investigating further FBI connections to a possible alien conspiracy by Assistant Director Brad Follmer (guest star Cary Elwes), Doggett and Reyes move forward in their attempts to find proof that Mulder's theories and suspicions were actually correct.

Their investigation leads them to the mysterious Shannon McMahon (guest star Lucy Lawless), who holds clues to a shocking government cover-up with possible ties to Scully's baby and the FBI.

In the conclusion "Nothing Important Happened Today II" Sunday, Nov. 18, Scully's baby is showing signs of being extraordinary and questions are raised about the child's connection to a government conspiracy. Doggett searches for clues and his life is both threatened and saved by McMahon, while Reyes continues the battle back at the FBI, keeping an eye on the potentially double-dealing Follmer.

Both episodes were written by creator and executive producer Chris Carter and executive producer Frank Spotnitz.

Chris Carter is the creator of THE X-FILES, which is produced by Ten Thirteen Productions in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Chris Carter, Frank Spotnitz, Vince Gilligan and John Shiban are executive producers. Michelle MacLaren and Kim Manners are co-executive producers; David Amann is supervising producer; Paul Rabwin, Harry V. Bring and Tony Wharmby are producers.

October 13, 2001 from an Ian Spelling Interview on Sci-Fi.Com and Harvey.
"My character, Shannon McMahon, re-enters [Agent John] Doggett's life," Lawless told Spelling by telephone from her home in Auckland, New Zealand. "They used to be in the military together--in my backstory, they fought in Beirut--and now she's causing a great deal of trouble. You don't know if she's good, and you don't know if she's bad. She seems to be both things at once."

Lawless added that McMahon bears tidings for Scully's baby. "And I spent half my time naked," she said. "Why not, if it looks good onscreen? Of course, you don't see anything, except my well-endowed body double. Let's just say the character's a bit of a water baby, a water babe. She's a nymph."

But Lawless declined to say more. "I feel like [X-Files creator] Chris Carter will come after me, and I'll end up with bloody cement boots on my feet at the bottom of the ocean if I tell you too much."

From E! Online's Watch with Wanda

The focus of the two-parter is on the water supply being contaminated with some kind of chlorine that preps the population to become these supersoldiers. Lawless plays one of Doggett's old war buddies who was drafted into this military experiment to create the supersoldiers. She can breathe underwater, has one of those freaky spines on the back of her neck and can't be killed, even after another supersoldier puts his hand through her torso from behind (this is in part two).

From Tv Guide:

"Conclusion. Reyes is defiant when questioned by Follmer about her activites with Doggett; Scully meets Shannon McMahon (Lucy Lawless), who offers an explanation of who she is."
